THE CHILDREN FROM UKRAINE

The children from Ukraine available for adoption are of both sexes at the age of 14 months or older. They live in Ukrainian orphanages. Ukrainian children are Caucasian with the combination being blond hair and blue or brown eyes.

HOW LONG WILL THE PROCESS TAKE?

After the Dossier is complete, and it is sent to Ukrainian Center of Adoption which is the State Department for Adoption and Protection of the Rights of the Child (SDA), the process of adoption may take between 6 to 8 months.

HOW AM I MATCHED WITH A CHILD?

After the Dossier is submitted to the Ukrainian Center of Adoption SDA, an appointment will be scheduled for the adoptive parents to travel to Ukraine. Once the parents arrive in the Center, they have limited time to look/review albums with pictures and medical information of all of the children that are available for adoption from orphanages located throughout Ukraine. Once the adoptive parents have made a decision, they travel to the particular orphanage to meet the child and start the necessary paperwork.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

Married couples and single women can adopt. There are no extreme limitations of age, but in most cases when the adoptive parent’s age is combined and the total equals 90 years, the parents are eligible to adopt a child between the ages of fourteen months and 4years. If the combined total is over 100 years, the child has to be older than 4 years.

DO I NEED TO TRAVEL TO UKRAINE?

The adoptive parents have two options:

1. The adoptive parents can make one trip and stay for approximately 2 – 4 weeks. During this period, they will accomplish all the necessary procedures and bring your child (ren) back home. However, one of the parents may leave the country earlier after the court hearing.

2. The adoptive parents can make two trips. On the first trip, the adoptive parents would meet the child and start the adoption procedure. On the second trip, approximately 3 – 4 weeks later, the adoptive parents would pick your child up. Each trip has to be between 7 – 10 days.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COST

The fee for an adoption in Ukraine is approximately from $18,300 to $21,000 including agency fees, application fees, and international fees. Please see below Overview of Fee and Costs.

The full price of the adoption of one child from Ukraine is approximately from $18,300 to $21,000. The fees are non-refundable. If you become pregnant or choose the services of another agency, the fees will not be refunded. They may however be applied to future international adoption through SMIA.
